Response of fungal endophyte communities within Andropogon gerardii (Big bluestem) to nutrient addition and herbivore exclusion

چکیده
Fungal endophytes may alter plant responses to the environment, but how does environment affect communities of fungal symbionts within plants? We examined impact nutrient addition and herbivore exclusion on endophyte prairie grass Andropogon gerardii in a full factorial field experiment. Fungi were cultured from stems, young leaves, mature ITS sequences obtained, incidence, community richness, composition analyzed. Results indicate that plots where treatments had been applied separately, or evenness did not differ, greater species richness was observed with combination, compared other treatments. Further, although significantly different stem leaf tissues, OTU all plus treatments, regardless tissue type. Our results distinct found tissues respond similarly environmental factors.

Temperature response of C4 species big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii) is modified by growing carbon dioxide concentration
Climate change factors interact to modify plant growth and development. The objective of this study was to evaluate the response to temperature of big bluestem (Andropogon gerardii Vitman) development, growth, reproduction and biomass partitioning under low and high carbon dioxide concentrations ([CO2]) grown in controlled environmental conditions. Ten sunlit soil–plant–atmosphere-research (SPA...
متن کاملEffect of elevated CO2 and drought on soil microbial communities associated with Andropogon gerardii.
Our understanding of the effects of elevated atmospheric CO2, singly and in combination with other environmental changes,on plant-soil interactions is incomplete. Elevated CO2 effects on C4 plants, though smaller than on C3 species, are mediated mostly via decreased stomatal conductance and thus water loss. Therefore, we characterized the interactive effect of elevated CO2 and drought on soil m...
متن کاملEvidence of a mycorrhizal mechanism for the adaptation of Andropogon gerardii (Poaceae) to high- and low-nutrient prairies.
Andropogon gerardii seed obtained from Kansas and Illinois was grown in a controlled environment in their own and each other's soils, with and without arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). Each ecotype grew comparatively better in its own soil indicating adaptation to its soil of origin. Overall, A. gerardii benefited more from AMF in low-nutrient Kansas soil than Illinois soil. The two ecotypes,...
متن کاملImpact of Intraspecific Polyploidy in Andropogon gerardii(Poaceae) Populations
—Andropogon gerardii populations are comprised of two (or more) polyploid forms over much of the range of the species. To understand the impact of intraspecific polyploidy, polyploid cytotypes were compared over 4 y in native grasslands in Boulder, Colorado. Boulder A. gerardii populations averaged 59.6% hexaploids (60 chromosomes), 35.3% enneaploids (90 chromosomes) and 5.1% intermediate (aneu...
متن کاملComparison of common cytotypesof Andropogon gerardii(Andropogoneae, Poaceae).
Many plant species contain populations with more than one polyploid cytotype, but little is known of the mechanisms maintaining several cytotypes in a population. Andropogon gerardii cytotypes were compared to evaluate different models of autopolyploid cytotype coexistence. The enneaploid (90 chromosome, 9x) cytotype was found to be larger and taller than the hexaploid (60 chromosome, 6x) cytot...
